  • Stockholm
    • Built on 14 islands around one of Europe’s largest and best-preserved medieval city centres, Sweden’s capital is superbly positioned at the point where the lake Mälaren opens up into the Baltic Sea.

The city is known for its beauty, historical buildings and architecture, water and many parks. It is often called the "Venice of the North, with water covering one third of the city. As a result, the maritime life is an important aspect of the city, with bridges, marinas and locks around every corner.

A feature not to be missed is the archipelago - a magnificent landscape of more than 30,000 islands, islets and skerries, of which only around one thousand are inhabited.

One of Stockholm’s most distinctive qualities is the interplay between the city and nature. Proof of this is that Stockholm is the first city named “European Green Capital” by the European Commission. The city's green credentials make it the perfect host for the European Offshore Conference and Exhibition 2009, with its focus on clean, renewable energy.
