How you can help

EWEA invites you to participate in its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of European Offshore Wind 2009 Conference and Exhibition and suggests the following:

  • purchase electronic airline tickets whenever possible as a printed ticket is no longer necessary;
  • support a renewable energy project in a developing country in order to offset the impact of your travel;
  • download any event information onto your computer instead of printing it;
  • if you are a speaker set up presentations so that if printed they use the two slides per page option;
  • use recycling bins when available;
  • participate in your hotel’s green programme and if none exists communicate your concerns or disapproval to the hotel manager;
  • communicate to others that you are participating in EWEA’s green initiatives and encourage them to join in!

Sustainability tips to Exhibitors

EWEA would like to encourage our exhibitors and contractors to put a higher emphasis on managing the amount of waste produced and the material to exhibit at our events.

  • Only bring what you need! Money and resources are wasted at each event due to the production and shipping of excess material.
  • Take sustainability into account early in the planning process.
  • Analyse the design of your stand to avoid excessive material. It is the design that matters, not the amount of standfitting displayed.
  • Maximise the use of prefabricated standfitting to reduce costs, save material and reduce build and dismantle times.
  • Ensure lighting is optimised to reduce cost and consumption through optimum placement of a minimum number of fittings.
  • Use as many reusable or recycled products as possible.
  • When planning your stand catering, avoid using disposable cutlery and crockery.
  • Check the possibilities of using recycled or recyclable carpet with your stand builder.
  • Talk to your stand builder about materials that can be reused several times and recycled when no longer suitable for stand construction.
  • If you exhibit worldwide you may want to evaluate material reuse compared to the cost and impact of shipping materials between locations.
  • Analyse which stand materials could be recycled at the end of the show, and check with the organiser or venue if they have recycling processes in place.
  • Talk to your printer about the material and printing systems used for your printed material. Often using paper and ink from sustainably managed sources does not involve any extra cost.
  • Make sure you participate correctly in the cleaning and waste collection policies.
