The offshore wind industry is rapidly expanding and is estimated to require some EUR180 to 200bn of investment up to 2030. This creates diverse equity investments opportunities for trade players, infrastructure funds, private equity providers, sovereign wealth funds and pension funds across a range of asset classes.
This interactive session discussed the role and appetite of such equity investors in the financing of assets (grid, generation) and the provision of growth capital to support fast growing equipment and service providers to the sector. This session, which involved contributions from relevant investors and was facilitated by Ernst & Young, covered the following areas:
- Where are the equity investment opportunities in the offshore wind industry?
- Which equity investors are likely to be interested in such investment opportunities?
- What are their respective roles and investment requirements?
- What are their perceptions of the risks and challenges of investing in the offshore wind industry?
- How could these risks and challenges be mitigated or addressed?
- What - if any - is the role of government and other multilateral organisations be to encourage equity investments?
