Maryland offshore wind opportunities
Maryland, USA: An Accelerated Strategy to develop 2000+ MW of Off-shore Wind Energy
Tuesday 15 September 10:30- 12:30
Room K12, Stockholm International Fairs (Stockholmsmässan)
The US State of Maryland has committed to a 20% Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) by 2022 and requires the deployment of off-shore wind to meet its goal.
This seminar provided details on Maryland’s approach to developing the off-shore wind energy. Maryland outlined its accelerated deployment strategy and explain its Mid-Atlantic coastal location advantages for European developers, installers and component manufacturers and suppliers.
Maryland’s shoreline is larger than California and the off-shore wind-energy potential provides corresponding opportunities.
Specifically, this seminar provided insight into:
- How Maryland is using some of the funding from President Obama’s stimulus package for the first stages in off-shore wind assessment;
- An insight into the timetable for critical announcements;
- The ‘economic development’ factor and the state’s “smart, green and growing” initiative that keeps its workforce current;
- The importance that Maryland places on public/private partnerships through its new and unique Clean Energy Center.
